As tens of thousands of children throughout Israel receive their vaccinations – two somewhat bitter drops on the tongue – against polio, a group of parents to children with cancer joined forces with parents of healthy children to stress the importance of this specific vaccination and the importance of hygiene in general, directing their words at all Israeli parents through the LatetTikva management.
AviHaimov, whose son is hospitalized in central Israel, wrote to LatetTikva:
“We’re all updated through the media of the dangers of polio. Everyone’s rushing to the child wellbeing centers to vaccinate their children. But we need to think about our children too. As is known, the immune system of children with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, or children who have received transplants, is particularly weak and the danger of contagion from bacteria and viruses is much higher so that even if these children had been vaccinated in the past, it’s as though they never were in actuality.
“Please, ask and explain to your children that even if they were vaccinated over the past few days, they should take extra care with hygiene, body cleanliness, and clean hands. Otherwise, G-d forbid, they may bring something contagious to our children and endanger our children’s lives!”
Closing his request, MrHaimov notes: “As an organization operating to benefit sick children year round, we are sure that now, too, you will convey this important message in the best way possible to all parents, thereby assisting in ensuring the health of our children.”
